The Holidays Can Be Hard for Seniors — But No One Has to Face Them Alone
For many older adults, the holiday season brings joy, but it can also bring challenges. Colder weather, reduced mobility, transportation barriers, and the loss of family or friends can make December a difficult month for seniors across Bossier Parish.
At Bossier Council on Aging (BCOA), our mission is to ensure that every senior has access to the meals, activities, connection, and support they need—especially during the holidays. Whether a senior needs a warm meal delivered, help getting to the store, or simply a place to enjoy the season with others, we’re here to make the holidays brighter.
Holiday Meals for Seniors in Bossier Parish
Hot Meals at Our Senior Centers
BCOA operates three welcoming senior centers—in Bearkat, Benton, and Haughton—where older adults can enjoy nutritious hot meals in a friendly, social environment. During December, meals are often paired with holiday decorations, seasonal treats, and festive programming.
Joining us for lunch not only provides a balanced meal; it also helps seniors stay socially connected during a time when isolation can increase.
Home-Delivered Meals for Homebound Seniors
For seniors who cannot get out due to health conditions or mobility limitations, BCOA’s Home-Delivered Meals Program ensures they continue to receive warm, healthy meals throughout the holiday season. These deliveries also provide an important wellness check and a friendly face at the door—something especially meaningful this time of year.
Holiday Activities at Bossier Parish Senior Centers
December is one of the most joyful months at our centers, with a variety of seasonal activities that help seniors stay active, creative, and connected. Each location offers its own lineup of holiday fun, but activities may include:
-
Ornament-making and holiday crafts
-
Seasonal music, caroling, and sing-alongs
-
Holiday bingo and themed games
-
Decorating contests and center-wide celebrations
-
Social gatherings and special luncheons
These activities offer more than entertainment—they provide opportunities for seniors to build friendships, engage their minds, and feel part of a supportive community.
Transportation Support for Seniors During the Holidays
Transportation can be one of the biggest barriers for seniors in December. BCOA provides safe, reliable transportation to help older adults:
-
Attend holiday activities
-
Make essential shopping trips
-
Keep medical appointments
-
Visit the senior centers
-
Handle personal errands they might otherwise struggle with
With our transportation team, seniors can get where they need to go with confidence and comfort.
Staying Connected: Resources for Seniors Who Feel Isolated During December
Loneliness can increase during the holiday season, but BCOA is committed to making sure no senior feels forgotten. Seniors and caregivers can reach out to us for:
-
Friendly, welcoming activity groups
-
Nutritious daily meals
-
Social opportunities at senior centers
-
Support navigating services
-

If you or a loved one is feeling alone this season, connecting with BCOA can make all the difference.
